Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions people ask about Demeure

Traveling with Demeure

What is the cost of Demeure membership?

Nothing! As a traveler, you pay absolutely no membership fees to join or travel with Demeure. So if you're not already a member, register now!

Membership is FREE? How is that possible?

Demeure earns revenue from property owners and rental agencies, not from travelers. When you rent a villa with Demeure, the property owner pays a commission. We share that commission with the Demeure-Certified Agency who provides you with pre-travel planning and on-the-ground hosting services.

This model is great for a few reasons. First, you avoid expensive membership fees and pay only for your travel expenses. Second, Demeure is committed to making sure you have a fantastic vacation every time you travel. That's because you're not locked into a long-term membership contract, so can choose to leave anytime. Third, we don't need to own properties directly. This lets us easily adjust our portfolio in response to member feedback and demand. So unlike destination clubs, you're not forced to compete for high-demand weeks at a small number of homes.

What do I get as a member of Demeure?

You get peace of mind, because we're here to take care of you. Read our full list of membership benefits and find out what to expect when you travel with Demeure.

How do you compare to Destination Clubs?

We provide access to the same luxury properties you expect from a high-end Destination Club. However, our business model differs in an important respect. Destination Clubs own properties directly and cannot pay their bills without generating additional cash from investors — or by continually recruiting new members who pay large initiation fees. They have a limited supply of properties and a high cost barrier to expanding their portfolio. In contrast, Demeure does not need to own properties. We can easily adjust our portfolio in response to demand from our community.

How far in advance can I make reservations?

Typically 12 months from the current date. Demeure's "sliding" reservation window shows availability for the coming year. If you can see the date, you may book the date.

What is Demeure's trip cancellation policy?

When booking a Demeure villa, you'll make two payments: a 50% deposit upon booking, and a 50% final payment 60 days before check-in.

If you need to cancel your reservation, please be aware these payments are non-refundable. Why? Our members tend to book travel well in advance. There's a good chance your property may sit empty after cancelling a reservation, because it's been unavailable to other members since you booked it. We strongly recommend purchasing trip cancellation insurance after confirming your reservation.

Can I be asked to leave the Demeure community?

We expect Demeure members to conduct themselves responsibly, treating properties, guests, and other members with respect. People who do not represent our community in this manner may be asked to leave. But that won't ever be necessary, right? Right!

Private home exchange with Demeure Club

What does it mean that Demeure Club is in "beta"?

We're still designing the underlying model and tools required for our home exchange program. We're currently testing the program with a small number of home owners. Let us know if you'd like to become a beta tester, or if you'd like us to alert you when the program officially launches.

Who can join Demeure Club?

Any member of the Demeure community who contributes time in their own vacation property. Non-homeowners may also join Demeure Club, but only upon referral by an existing Club member.

Is my home visible only to other members of Demeure Club?

By default, yes. Only Demeure Club members will know your home is available for rental.

However, if you'd like to maximize your potential income, you may choose to list your home to the entire Demeure community. This makes it visible to everyone who visits the Demeure website and browses our portfolio.

When do I earn money that I can spend on my own travel?

As soon as we collect money from guests who book your home, we transfer that money to your Demeure account. We collect a 50% deposit at time of booking and the remaining balance 60 days before check-in.

What happens if I earn more money than I want to spend on my own travel?

We plan to provide a simple means for withdrawing cash from your Demeure account. We're still sorting out the details of this transaction, so it's possible we may need to charge a marginal fee for this service. Please get in touch if you'd like to discuss this further.

What are the minimum and maximum number of weeks that I can exchange?

We ask that you make a minimum of 2 weeks available in your home to Demeure Club members. There is no maximum limit.

How will Demeure help me to prepare my home for exchange?

A Demeure representative will work closely with you throughout this entire process. Together, you'll address any concerns you may have about privacy and will work out how to minimize inconvenience for you as the property owner. Demeure will produce a "Property Guidebook", a comprehensive resource for helping manage your property worry-free while ensuring Demeure’s standards are met.

What insurance coverage do I need?

You will need to maintain appropriate policies of property and public liability insurance, and must provide Demeure with proof of this coverage upon request. We will review and recommend insurance coverage limits during the process of evaluating your property for exchange.

What if I decide to sell my house?

We ask for six months advance notice, since our members can view availability in your home for the entire coming year. If you provide less than six month’s notice, you may incur a cancellation fee. We'll waive this fee if you have no upcoming reservations during this period.

What happens if my home is damaged by Demeure guests?

We'll make it right. Every Demeure guest is covered by security deposit & damage insurance, just give us a call and we'll explain the details. But perhaps your best assurance of all comes from knowing that guests are Club members just like you: owners of luxury vacation properties, or people who have been recommended by them.
