Peter is Demeure’s chief advisor and President of Laurence Capital Corporation (LCC), a Waterloo-based merchant bank. LCC manages three investment funds that provide capital and stewardship to Canadian growth companies. LCC is part of the Laurence group of companies, which includes Laurence Financial Services Corp. (a niche lender to Canadian entrepreneurs) and Laurence Development LP (a diversified real estate development company).
Peter is the former Chairman and CEO of Descartes Systems Group Inc. (Nasdaq:DSGX TSX:DSG) a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company founded in 1981. Descartes is developing the world’s largest multimodal electronic logistics messaging network, called the Global Logistics Network or GLN. Descartes’ on-demand GLN processes more than a million messages every day for companies with transport operations. Peter joined Descartes in 1990 and held positions of increasing responsibility leading to his appointment as CEO in 1995 and Chairman of the Board in 1997. During Peter’s tenure, revenues grew from $1 million to over $80 million.
Peter holds an HBA from the University of Western Ontario. He currently sits on the advisory board for J.L. Albright Venture Partners Inc. and Tech Capital Partners. Peter is Chairman of Brick Brewing Co. Ltd. (TSX:BRB) and WCP Holdings Inc. (Williams Fresh Cafe). He is director of XMG Studio Inc., I Love Rewards Inc., ParkVu Inc., the Stratford Chef School, Onco Screen Inc., Glassbox TV, and Aware Corporation Ltd. Peter has been a member of the Young Presidents Organization since 1996 and was chosen as one of The Financial Post’s Top 40 under 40 in 1998.
John is Senior Counsel and the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Deloitte & Touche. Born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, John Bowey obtained a BA in Economics from Colby College in Waterville, Maine in 1971. He then obtained his MBA from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario in 1973 and joined Deloitte in Toronto immediately after his graduation. He became a Chartered Accountant in 1976. He transferred to the Kitchener Office in 1980. He was admitted to the Partnership in 1983. From 2000 to 2004 John was the Tax Practice Leader for South Western Ontario and from 2001 to 2006 he was also the Regional Managing Partner for South Western Ontario.
John was elected to the Deloitte Board of Directors in 2002, was appointed Chairman of the Board Governance Committee in 2004 and was elected by the partnership as Chairman of Deloitte in 2006 and served in that capacity until his retirement from Deloitte in May of 2010. In addition to his Canadian responsibilities, John was a member of the global Board of Deloitte and the global Governance Committee and Audit Committee. In 2006, he was recognized as a Fellowof the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario for his professional and community achievements. In 2008, he received his ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
John has several community and professional service engagements including board chair of Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Governors Council for Opportunity International, Board Member and Audit Committee Chair for Brick Brewing and Chair of the Advisory Board for Simpson Seeds Inc.
As Maxium’s co-founder and President, Paul has been instrumental in the company’s development and growth, resulting in its position as a leading, privately-held Leasing Company with assets in excess of $600 million. Over the past 17 years, Paul has been instrumental in assembling an exceptional team of experienced Financing professionals dedicated to servicing several key vertical markets. Prior to helming Maxium, Paul was President of Triathlon Equipment Leasing where he also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Financing & Leasing Association. Paul had a successful career at Xerox where he held several sales and marketing management positions.
Attending McMaster University on a Chancellor’s scholarship, Paul completed his Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Statistics and Computer Science, followed by a Masters in Business Administration. While at McMaster, Paul also worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Faculty of Business and participated in several intramural sports, including hockey and basketball.
Paul, his wife and two children live in Richmond Hill, Ontario where he remains an active member of his community. He’s a scratch golfer and a regular at the gym. Paul maintains a membership in the National Golf Course Owners Association and the Golf Course Superintendents Association. In addition to his busy role with Maxium, Paul serves as a Director on the Board of several organizations including the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA/Golf Canada), Laurence North/Oviinbyrd and Launch. The National Post recently acknowledged Paul as “one of the Top 25 most influential people in Canadian Golf”. Paul also makes time to volunteer his support to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Canada.
Mark founded The Rider Travel Group in 1982, with the vision of servicing the needs of business travelers while managing a corporation’s travel budget. Focusing squarely on the needs of the corporate travel sector, Mr. Rider created a company that grew from modest billings of $1 million to over $600 million in 1999.
During the last several years, through his holding company, The Rider Group Inc., Mark has developed and/or fostered a number of new businesses in the fields of entertainment, technology and travel. An active angel investor subsequent to the successful divestiture of The Rider Travel Group, he is now positioned to add value to high growth organizations in a widening range of markets.
Mark has been a Board Member of the Invest In Kids Foundation (a national charitable organization) for several years and is director of a number of technology-based companies. He is also currently the Executive Chairman of Timeplay Entertainment Inc. and sits on the Board of Waterloo based Intelligent Mechatronic Systems.
Rob is Co-CEO of G3 Capital Corp, a Toronto based alternative asset manager founded in February 2005. G3′s principal units today operate within the hedge fund and venture capital areas. Since Inception G3 has either directly or indirectly invested in 12 private companies including Ventus Energy, Cirba, Globalive Communications, Quickplay Media, Athabasca Oil Sands, Pharoslife, NextJ, XMG Studios and Laracina Energy.
Rob was Co-Founder of GMP Capital Corp in March 1995 and most recently served as Vice Chairman of Investment Banking and served on the firm’s Executive Committee until May 2007. In his tenure at GMP he was involved in over 100 transactions raising in excess of $5 Billion. Prior to GMP, Rob was a Partner in Corporate Finance at Gordon Capital Corporation.
In 2002 Rob Co-Founded the company that built and currently operates Oviinbyrd Golf Club. Oviinbyrd is located in Port Carling, Ontario and is one of Canada’s premiere private golf clubs.
